How We Calculate

Our house cleaning cost calculator estimates per-visit, monthly, and annual costs based on home size, bedrooms, bathrooms, cleaning type, frequency, and condition.

How the math works: Base cost = (sq ft × $0.05–$0.10) + (bedrooms × $10–$20) + (bathrooms × $15–$30). Final cost = base × cleaning type multiplier × condition multiplier × frequency discount. $100 minimum per visit.

Cleaning Type Multipliers

Standard cleaning (1.0×) covers routine maintenance. Deep cleaning (1.5×) adds detailed work like baseboards, inside cabinets, and appliance surfaces. Move-in/out cleaning (2.0×) is the most thorough and includes every surface in the home.

Frequency Discounts

Weekly service saves 15% per visit, bi-weekly saves 10%, and monthly saves 5% compared to one-time rates. Recurring contracts reduce per-visit costs because the home requires less work between visits.

Data Sources

Pricing data is compiled from HomeAdvisor, Angi, Thumbtack, and cleaning service companies across multiple US metro areas (2025–2026). Costs vary significantly by region — major metros are 20–40% higher than rural areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does house cleaning cost? +

House cleaning costs $100–$300 per visit for a standard cleaning, depending on home size and number of bedrooms/bathrooms. A 1,500 sq ft, 3BR/2BA home typically costs $120–$200 for standard cleaning, $180–$300 for deep cleaning, and $240–$400 for move-in/out cleaning.

How much does a deep cleaning cost? +

Deep cleaning costs 1.5–2× more than standard cleaning, typically $200–$400 for an average home. It includes baseboards, inside cabinets, appliance interiors, window sills, ceiling fans, and detailed bathroom scrubbing that standard cleaning skips.

Is it cheaper to hire a cleaning service weekly or bi-weekly? +

Per-visit cost is lowest with weekly service (15% discount) because the home stays cleaner between visits. However, bi-weekly (10% discount) is the most popular frequency as it balances cost and cleanliness. Monthly total: weekly ~$340–$680 vs. bi-weekly ~$216–$432 for a typical home.

What does standard cleaning include? +

Standard cleaning includes vacuuming, mopping, dusting surfaces, wiping countertops, cleaning toilets/sinks/tubs, making beds, emptying trash, and kitchen surface cleaning. It does not include inside cabinets, baseboards, windows, or appliance interiors.

How much does move-in/out cleaning cost? +

Move-in/out cleaning costs $200–$500+ and is the most thorough cleaning type. It includes everything in a deep clean plus inside all closets/cabinets, appliance deep clean (oven, fridge), window washing, garage sweeping, and wall spot cleaning. Allow 4–8 hours.

Should I tip house cleaners? +

Tipping is customary but not required. 15–20% of the cleaning cost is standard for one-time or occasional service. For recurring service, $10–$20 per visit or a larger holiday tip is common. If the cleaning company owner cleans your home, tipping is optional.
